Project Description:
Casa Grijalva is a project located in an open housing development in front of a park, because of
this we decided to raise apparent concrete walls to the exterior of the street to achieve the
privacy that the owner desired. We integrated an aquatic garden space that joins the exterior
to the interior, allowing view to the street, but caring for the privacy of the interior of the
residence.
This space allows us to connect to the studio zone, which is thought out to receive exterior
visits without granting access to the interior of the home. We integrated an open zone that
connects to the semi open garage to the studio and the entrance zone, allowing for a
semiprivate zone or controlled access before entering the house.
We incorporated large walls made from natural materials, like stone ashlar, and apparent
concrete, to achieve a contrast between earth and concrete construction.
Via the double height in the main stairs, you access the living room, kitchen, and dining room,
where we have large double height windows with view to the exterior terrace, and pool. This
space is formed by a large, slanted roof which protects from direct sunlight from the south;
while at the same time it creates space for solar panels in the roof, looking for energy efficiency
and the inclusion of renewable energy.
The house is thought with spaces that bring a high level of light and views to the aquatic garden
at the entrance, as well as views to the backyard, the exterior terrace and pool area. There is a
waterfall that goes to the pool with a garden at the back creating contrast with the grey wall
that limits the property.
The stone ashlar wall is visible from the front of the house in the aquatic garden, all the way
back to the back of the home, crossing through the entrance stairs, and the living room,
creating a continuity that connects the whole space.
